Councillor Mark Ieronimo (centre) with Danny Long, Jamie Husband and Kristian Deeth from local contractor PBS Construction Limited at the Cottingham Road / Hall Road Roundabout.

From Monday (2 February 2026), a two-week programme of works to improve the road surface at the Cottingham Road/Hall Road Roundabout will get underway.

What's happening

The works will be undertaken in two phases, with the traffic flow between Hall Road and Fairfax Avenue maintained using temporary signals.

However, access to Hotham Road North and Cottingham Road on both sides of the roundabout will be closed.

It is anticipated that the work will be complete by Friday 13 February 2026, depending on the weather.

The works are being carried out by local contractor, PBS Construction Limited.

Residents and businesses have been notified in advance of the works starting and information boards are in place at each location.

Diversion route

Due to the closure at Cottingham Road/Hall Road Roundabout, a signed diversion route will be in place for motorists and members of the travelling public. Diversion route information, as follows -

The signed diversion will divert motorists along the Hull Road onto Bricknell Avenue, and then on to Chanterlands Avenue (North) to bypass the road closures on Cottingham Road.

The diversion route for motorists and the travelling public while the Cottingham Road/Hall Road Roundabout works are undertaken.

Bus Service Diversions

The works will impact on several bus services in the area, with some bus stops suspended and diversions in place, as follows -

Stagecoach East Midlands

  • Service 3 - outbound to Orchard Park Tesco will operate a normal route to Bricknell Avenue but, instead of turning onto Hotham Road North, it will continue along Bricknell Avenue and turn left onto Hull Road at the junction with the West Bulls Pub before turning right onto Inglemire Lane before turning left at the traffic lights onto Hall Road and regain its normal route. The inbound service will do the same, as above, but in reverse.
  • Service 18 - inbound will operate a normal route to Hull Road and then turn left onto Inglemire Lane at the traffic lights, before turning right onto Hall Road and straight across the roundabout onto Fairfax Avenue to regain its normal route. Outbound the service to Castle Hull Hospital is unaffected.
  • Service 85 - outbound, the bus to Wilberforce College will service Burniston Road and Hartoft Road as normal and then turn left onto Bricknell Avenue before turning round near the shops to continue along Bricknell Avenue. At the roundabout, it will take the first exist onto Chanterlands Avenue North and turn right at the traffic lights to regain its normal route onto Cottingham Road. Inbound, the service will do the reverse of what is outlined, above, without serving Burniston Road and Hartoft Road.

East Yorkshire Buses

  • Service 45 - normal route from Hull Paragon Interchange to Cottingham Road, the bus will then turn left onto Chanterlands Avenue and right onto Bricknell Avenue to Cottingham and then will resume normal route.
  • Service 44 - will terminate at Chanterlands Avenue/Cottingham Road junction.

To support passengers during the diversion, temporary bus stops have also been placed on both sides of the road, in the vicinity of the Inglemire Club on Inglemire Lane.

Where bus stops are suspended, information will be posted to direct bus users to where they need to go to catch the bus.
