Priory Drive Footbridge
Priory Drive Footbridge - a key pedestrian link in west Hull which spans the Hull to Scarborough railway line - is entering the latter stages of its service life and is presenting movement to its foundations.
Currently, due to the safety concerns around its stability of the footbridge, we need to develop schemes for its removal and replacement.
To progress these essential works, Mason Clark Associates have been directly appointed under a three-year contract. As part of this, they will provide contractual support and act as the technical approver on our behalf.
Mason Clark Associates will also support the development of the future design and build contract, enabling us to move forward with the removal and replacement schemes without any further delay.
These designs will be developed and agreed with Network Rail and will be subject to their timescales for approvals.
The reinforced concrete structure provides essential pedestrian access between Priory Drive, Priory Road, Hotham Road, and Bricknell Avenue, forming the only local access for residents and pupils travelling to Appleton Primary School, Wyke College, and Kelvin Hall Secondary School.
Until a replacement can be constructed, we will continue to work collaboratively with Mason Clark Associates and Network Rail to monitor the structure and carry out any necessary repairs.
In the meantime, the footbridge remains safe and open for public use.
Background
In July 2023, members of the public and key local stakeholders were encouraged to take part in an early consultation on the replacement of the structure.
This consultation formed part of a feasibility study in partnership with Network Rail, which looked at the practicalities of the project.
