Modeshift STARS (Education) is a programme designed to encourage youngsters to travel actively.

The STARS Education scheme recognises schools and other educational establishments that have shown excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable and active travel.

Launched in 2008, the STARS Education scheme is supported by the Department for Transport and has seen over 1,400 schools in England achieve accreditation since its inception.

In the autumn and spring of each year, schools, local authorities and key partners come together for the National STARS School Travel Awards, which recognise the outstanding schools from each local authority.

First Step Sports Group deliver the programme on behalf of the council, and can assist with -

  • the application process
  • how to complete initiatives
  • how to achieve the Modeshift STARS accreditation

They also work with schools in Hull to promote active travel options and offer training to children and young people to develop their confidence and skills to make their journey to school on foot and by bike.

If your school would like to take part in the Modeshift STARS (Education) programme, contact Josh Stokes, modeshift coordinator.
