A roadworks sign

Hull City Council is set to commence its annual micro-surfacing programme next week, which will see 32 roads rejuvenated across the city.

The city-wide micro-surfacing programme, which will see over 39,000m2 of roads treated, will begin on Monday 18 May and is expected to be completed by Thursday 11 June, weather permitting.

Part of the council’s highways capital programme, these works aim to enhance the quality of the mainly residential roads, which are now starting to show signs of deterioration.

Micro-surfacing removes any existing shallow defects, such as potholes and cracking, while sealing up the road to prevent water ingress. This will help to improve the condition and safety of Hull’s roads for residents, commuters, and visitors.

To ensure the safety of the contractors, and road users, the works will be conducted under full road closures.

The scheduled working hours are from 7am to 5pm, unless otherwise stated.

Residents will be informed via letter drops two weeks prior to the works commencing at each site. Additionally, the contractor will distribute leaflets containing further information.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “This programme has been developed to improve the condition of key residential roads that are beginning to show signs of wear, helping to keep them safe and reliable for everyday use.

“We recognise that these works may cause some short‑term inconvenience and we apologise for any disruption. However, we are committed to minimising the impact by completing the works as quickly and efficiently as possible and keeping residents informed throughout.”

The scheme will be carried out by Colas on behalf of the council.
